| Getting Started Guide |
A Website consists of 3 main components.
Hosting services
A domain name
Web pages
The hosting services aspect is simply the providing of an Internet connection, and providing the necessary services to make your web pages operate.
The domain name serves as a human readable location that people can type in to find your web pages. The hosting services company translates this name into a numerical format that computers understand, to make everything work.
You must register your own domain name, with HBHosting.com (or another registration company), so that no one else may use it. Domain names typically cost $15.00 - $50.00 per year, depending on who you register with.
The web pages are what you view when you visit a website. They can contain text, graphics, sound, animation and video. Your job (or you could hire someone to do it for you) is to create
web pages that contain the information you want on them.
There are a whole slew of free and not-so-free software out there to help you create your web pages. For example: |
| Free HTML creation software |
CoffeeCup
Web Easy
Hot Dog Junior
|
| Professional HTML creation software |
Adobe GoLive
Microsoft FrontPage
Macromedia Homesite
Depending on how serious you are about developing your web pages, a good designer should choose one of the Professional HTML creation programs. If you are
developing something for non-profit, personal, or general use then you should just choose one of the Free HTML programs. They are usually pretty easy to use,
along the same lines as using your favorite word processor (Speaking of which, Microsoft Word will create HTML documents!).
So go ahead! Get an account with HBHosting.com, grab a cup of coffee, and start making up your own web page!
